The reel-spinning action is set out West against a backdrop of desert. The appearance is unfussy, with BF Games going for a contemporary cartoon feel, and there isn't much occurring on screen. Thanks to the small grid, it doesn't get crowded even on mobile, and what makes it so neat is largely due to the three-reel arrangement. Only one Wild lands per reel, so the grid never fills with Jacks the way it fills with fruit. This is a remastered take on a traditional slot form. It is a remaster of BF Games' Wild Jack, and Fruitastic is another three-reel build from the same studio.

One Jack to a reel

Three reels carry with them 3 symbols on each, and all of that reel and row action results in 27 ways to win, counted left to right from the first reel. I ran 430 spins through it at 10.00 a spin, and 144 of them paid. For that, I get an RTP of 96.12%. Symbols are a blend of old and new. The fruit are the stacked ones; the Western symbols are not. Winners form when 3 land on neighbouring reels. A run of Wilds on their own also pays. The low pay symbols are the orange, watermelon, grapes, and cherry. All four sit at the same tier. The high pay symbols are bells, horseshoes, guns, the sheriff star, and the Jack himself, who can award 50 times the stake for three of a kind. Of my 144 paying spins, 87 returned less than the 10.00 that bought them.

Wild Jack Remastered is a simple slot that works within what three reels have to offer without adding a ton of extras, and only the greatest winning combination of one symbol is paid, so other combinations from the same symbol are discarded. There is one multiplier in the base game, the triple on nine matching fruit, and one in the gamble, the double.

The Jack, the masked cowboy, is Wild. Three of him is the top three-of-a-kind on the paytable. He stands in for all other symbols except the scatter, and he lands on all reels. A Jack on the first reel can therefore start a combination for any paying symbol. Only one Wild can appear on each reel, and Wild and scatter never share a reel. The most Jacks a screen can show is three, one to a reel. A combination of Wilds alone can win.

Eight cherries and a masked cowboy

All four fruit symbols are stacked, and they aren't merely there to look attractive: if 9 matching fruit symbols land on the screen, the win is tripled. On the frame above, eight of the nine positions hold cherries and the ninth, bottom right, holds the Jack, and a 10.00 bet returned 135.00, which is 13.5 times the stake, 27 ways of cherry paying flat with no triple applied on that screen.

Five Wagon rounds in 430 spins

The Wagon is the scatter symbol. Scatters on their own do not pay. If 3 or more land then players are rewarded with 15 free spins, and a retrigger appends another 15 free spins to the current count. I hit five rounds across 430 spins, on spins 132, 172, 191, 200 and 373, and every one was 15 free spins with no retrigger. During free spins, an alternate set of reels is employed. The five rounds paid 340.00, 280.00, 270.00, 30.00 and 210.00 at a 10.00 stake. The round runs at the trigger bet on the same paylines. Together they were 1,130.00, which is 28% of everything the session won.

Last but not least is the extra gamble feature. It appears after each win. With 144 of my 430 spins paying, that prompt came up 144 times. When chosen, players can win double or nothing by selecting the correct card colour, over a maximum of four steps and up to a maximum gamble win of 25,000 credits.

Wild Jack Remastered is a three-reel build, and developers are often wary with a pared-back grid. The grid runs three rows deep, which is what lets a fruit stack fill it. I put 430 spins through it at 10.00 and came out at 93.1%, from 10,000.00 down to 9,705.00.

It is the stacks and the free spins that carry the game. My best free-spin round paid 34 times the stake, on spin 132, and the worst paid 3, on spin 200. Nine identical fruit can swiftly add up. My peak balance was 10,697.00, reached on spin 232. In conjunction with an alternate free-spins reel set and Wilds on every reel, the count can soon rise. The longest I went without a win was 12 spins, ending on spin 42.

What is left is the plainness that BF Games have retained. The rules cap a single spin at 63 times the stake and a whole round at 1,557 times, and my largest spin, the 630.00 on spin 10, sat exactly on that per-spin cap.
