Where the 2x to 5x multipliers actually live

The 2x, 3x, 4x and 5x wild multipliers in Fire Gnomes never turn up in ordinary play; they exist only inside the Fire Gnomes Feature. Certain providers, such as WMS and Novomatic, have a talent for making retro-style slots. They manage that very capably. But in this instance, regrettably, the graphics come off as dated. Wins are counted from the leftmost reel across adjacent reels, and only the highest win on each line is paid.

Fire Gnomes is a 4-reel, 5-row slot with 95 pay lines, and it is listed at 96.18% RTP. In 450 spins at 30.00 a spin, 125 of them paid, and 71 of those returned less than the stake. Core to Fire Gnomes is the Fire Gnomes Feature and the wild multipliers. In those 450 spins the feature came up twice, on spin 191 and on spin 291. I will examine these further below. Wilds replace all paying symbols and form their own combinations, but they do not fill in for the scatter or for the feature activation symbols. The wild multiplier symbols substitute the same way, and each one that joins a win multiplies that win by its own value. They are not available inside the bonus. The largest win of the session outside the feature was 1,470.00 on spin 51, 49 times the stake, and wilds carried it.

Driven by Big BuildUp, the Fire Gnomes Feature serves a multi-purpose, and Build-Up symbols land on reels 1 and 4 in ordinary base game and lift the feature awards shown along the edges of the gameboard. The Build-Up symbols and the feature activation symbols pay nothing on their own. Feature activation symbols land on reels 2 and 3. On spin 191 a trigger from those reels switched on a single side award and returned 108.00, 3.6 times the stake. Landing one or more of them may set off the feature and switch on one or more of those side awards. On spin 291 two of them did, added wilds and added wild multipliers together. These awards comprise:

Added wilds - one or more symbols on the reels are converted into wild.
Added wild multipliers - 2x, 3x, 4x and 5x wild multiplier symbols. Each one multiplies the win it takes part in.
The silver prize and the gold prize - credit awards paid straight out.

The Minty Summary: Two triggers in 450 spins carried 6,318.00 between them, 41% of everything the session won, and one of those triggers accounted for 207 times the stake on its own. Everything else — 125 paying spins, 71 of them under the stake — was the reels keeping me company until the gnomes showed up.

Over 450 spins at a stake of 30.00 the slot returned 113.8%. The longest run without a win was 14 spins, ending on spin 110. The Fire Gnomes Feature paid 207 times the stake on spin 291. Counting the earlier trigger as well, the feature was worth 6,318.00, or 41% of everything won.

Wild multiplier mechanics is my preferred feature. Here those multipliers reached the reels once, on the second of the two triggers. Moreover, it has proven successful in classic slots such as Dead or Alive (NetEnt), Cazino Zeppelin Reloaded (Yggdrasil), and Rumpel (Novomatic). It remains to see, however, if further down the road I'll be able to append Fire Gnomes to this roster of classic online slots.
