Can four respin grids rescue a low-volatility game that paid me back 70%? Once, on spin 162, a Minor jackpot round covered 96 times the stake; the other three triggers stalled on the first grid at 5.6x to 8.4x.
With a bet range between 0.25 - 400, Wolf Gold Ultimate is a 5-reel, 3-row, 25 payline slot. All wins pay from left to right on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel, and only the highest win on each line is paid. The game ships with the Money Respin feature. It is the only bonus round in the rules, and there is no free spins feature. In it, punters can open up to 4 grids and collect multipliers, Money values, jackpots and other bonuses on the path, to amplify wins. The jackpots are fixed multiples of the total bet, from 20x for the Mini to 1000x for the Grand, and none of them is progressive. Punters can access the bonus game through both Money symbols and the Buy Feature. I played all 450 spins at a 250.00 stake with the Ante Bet off, starting from a balance of 100,000.00. Plus, they can pick between two distinct Ante Bet tiers. The 40x bet multiplier puts more Money symbols on the reels and disables the Buy Feature, while the 25x multiplier is normal play.
The game features a count of 8 standard symbols, and on the reels you will discover four low-paying symbols in the shape of royals - A, K, Q and J. The four royals top out at 2x the stake for five on a line. You will discover four high-paying symbols depicted by creatures as well - buffalo, eagle, horse and cougar. Five eagles pay 16x the stake, five horses 12x and five cougars 8x. The buffalo is the top animal. It pays 20 times the stake should it land across a complete payline. Four buffalo pay 10x the stake and three pay 1x.
Aside from the standard symbols, there is additionally a Wild symbol and a Money symbol. The Wild substitutes for every symbol except the Money symbol, and five of them on a line pay 20x the stake, the same as the buffalo.
Collect 9 Money symbols on the first grid. That opens the second grid in the Money Respin feature. Only Money symbols and blanks can land during the round.
18 Money symbols across the initial two grids open the third grid, and 32 Money symbols across all three grids open the 5x1 grid. My only round to open the third grid came on spin 162, where the 5x1 grid stayed locked and the payout of 24,000.00 took the balance from 80,275.00 to 104,025.00.

The Money Respin feature is triggered by hitting 6+ Money symbols or by employing the Buy Feature for 80x the total bet, and the punter is guaranteed 6, 7 or 8 Money symbols on the triggering spin if this feature is triggered by the Buy Feature. The rules put the RTP at 96.56% with the Buy Feature and 96.54% with the Ante Bet.
The Money Respin feature is built up of three 5x3 grids and one 5x1 grid. Only the first 5x3 grid is unlocked when the round starts, and the round begins with 3 respins that reset to 3 whenever another Money symbol lands. The Money symbols on the grids stay. They are worth 0.4x-15x the total bet or the Mini, Minor, Major or Grand jackpot, and punters can additionally collect the following Money symbols on the 5x1 grid.
All Money values on the opened grids are summed together and awarded after the respins run out or every position is filled. The Minor jackpot is a fixed 50x the total bet, and the second and third grids unlock at 9 and 18 Money symbols.
The Minty Take: The Money Respin paid 29,300.00, a shade over a third of my winnings, and 24,000.00 of it came from the single Minor jackpot round; the other three triggers added 5,300.00 between them across 450 spins.
Wolf Gold Ultimate is unquestionably an ambitious venture and a huge endeavour, but regrettably, Pragmatic Play might have overengineered matters here. My 450 spins returned 78,775.00 on 112,500.00 wagered, a session return of 70.0%, and the Money Respin accounted for 29,300.00 of that. It comes across as a touch of chaos until you begin to understand the game. Of the 450 spins, 172 paid something, and 108 of those paid less than the stake. That might need a few sessions and some studying. The longest run without a win lasted 9 spins and ended on spin 117. I'm not persuaded that punters will have the patience needed. The balance peaked at 104,025.00 after spin 162 and finished at its lowest point, 66,275.00, when I stopped. To be reasonable though, learning about it here does make it look still more convoluted than it truly is. Three of my four Money Respin rounds started from 6 Money symbols and ran out of respins on the first grid, paying between 5.6x and 8.4x the stake.
There is a 5000 times the stake max win potential in the game. A round that hits 5,000x ends at once and forfeits any features still left to play. The Money Respin feature was hitting 4 times in 450 spins for me during my testing session, while the 5x1 grid stayed locked every time, but the returns were dreadful, apart from one 96x the stake round with the Minor jackpot.
