Nothing in Spin Town waits for a bonus round, because there isn't one. Wilds gather at the kerb while the lights hold red, then walk a reel a spin once the green man shows, and two that meet under an umbrella carry a x2 between them. Across 210 spins the walking was the whole game, and 79 of them…

Rock 'n' rollers, guardsmen and hooligans

The words "Spin Town" may already convey something to you if you're a football-going, guitar-owning type. I played 210 spins of it at a 1-credit stake.

A quick glance shows that the town in question is really only a pretext for a procession of local figures. Each of those three groups has a feature attached to it. It is a set of reels filled with rock 'n' rollers, guardsmen and hooligans. Landing three of any one of them is what starts the corresponding wild feature. They all exist to send wilds strolling. Once they are moving, the wilds advance with each spin rather than resolving on the spin that produced them.

The green man and the wilds at the edge

Spin Town is a 5-reel slot with 40 fixed paylines. The lines are fixed, so the stake is set as a total rather than adjusted line by line. Initially, Spin Town may come across as mildly puzzling. Much of that comes from wilds that are already sitting on the reels when a spin starts, left there by the spin before. It is actually a fairly straightforward slot with heavy emphasis on wilds that cross the reels, and it all applies in the base game. There is no separate round to reach for.

Situated on a town's high street, there are plenty of understated details and animations - traffic lights holding the wilds back on red, a green man appearing to wave them across, and couples ducking under a shared umbrella. The lights act as the timer: wilds gather at the edge and hold while the lights are red, and they move once the green man shows.

Wilds that carry over from the spin before

Core to the game is the Wild Crossing, where wilds assemble at the edge of the reels and wait while the lights are red. When the green man appears they cross the reels, one step per spin. So a single spin can start something that is still running several spins later. A Sleepy Wild may fall asleep and remain in play longer. That is a random event rather than something you set in motion. A Speedy Wild may travel two reels at a time. Two reels a step means it reaches the far edge in fewer spins than the rest. Two Couple Wilds that meet merge under an umbrella for a x2 win multiplier. The merge happens when the two of them bump into each other on the reels. They then proceed separately, each carrying x2, one per line.

The wild stands in for all paying symbols. Eagle Riches and Treasure Mine are other 40-line Red Tiger Gaming machines.

Locked symbols and feature progress are stored per stake level and retained permanently. A crossing left unfinished is still there when you return to that stake. Altering the stake shifts you to a distinct progress level. Changing the stake mid-crossing is how one gets left behind.

Four Rockin' Wilds, 1x2 Mega Wilds, Hooligan Wilds

Unless they arrive from a promotional campaign, there are no free spins on offer here at all. Those come from the operator rather than from the reels. Your main-game progress is retained in that case and resumes afterwards. It resumes at the same stake it was saved at. It's all about the crossing wilds instead. Of my 210 spins, 79 paid, and 54 of those paid less than the stake. Three symbols of a kind is what sets the larger ones marching, and three Rock 'n' Roll symbols launch the Four Rockin' Wilds, which may cross the slot up to 10 times. The best spin of the run was spin 125 at 34.00, followed by spin 12 at 17.00. Three Guardsmen symbols launch the 1x2 Mega Wilds, and they cross from either side. Spin 140 paid 8.40, the third largest of the 210. Three Kick Off symbols launch the Hooligan Wilds, which cross from either side in tightly packed clusters. The longest I went without a win was 7 spins, ending on spin 55.

Our Minty Verdict: Over 210 spins at a 1-credit stake I received 132.20 credits back from 210.00 wagered, a session return of 63.0%, with the best single spin worth 34 times the stake. The balance peaked at 1,010.80 on spin 33 and closed at 922.20.
