A ways game with five jackpots overhead

Triple Edge Studios launched Rising Rewards on September 26, 2023. It is a jackpot game as well as a ways game, with five progressive values carried above the reels and a free spins round behind a multiplier meter. At least judging by looks, I'm keen to see something marginally more ambitious than an ordinary ways game. I put 230 spins through it at a 3.00 stake to find out what it does and when it does it.

Rising Rewards slot

Rising Rewards is a ways style game staged on a 3-4-5-4-3 layout arrangement. Wins are read from the leftmost reel rightwards and from the rightmost reel leftwards, and only the highest win per way is paid from each direction. That layout denotes five reels of three, four, five, four and three symbols, and it's playable on all devices, producing a paying spin when identical symbols land on adjacent reels. The screen states as much on two plates beside the reels, one reading Pays Both Directions and one reading 720 Ways. It does that across 720 ways that pay in both directions. Triple Edge Studios runs the same 720 ways count in Fire and Roses Joker King Millions, and it has a second jackpot game on the site in Sisters of Oz Jackpots.

Wilds on reels 2, 3 and 4

The wild symbol lands on reels 2, 3 and 4 and stands in for everything except the scatters and the Jackpot Trigger symbols, and beside it there are the Jackpot Trigger symbols. In the frame above, two stacked wilds fill reel 2 on a 3.60 way win. Collect them on a spin and you get an opportunity to spin the Jackpot Wheel. Only the triggers that land on that spin count towards it, so nothing carries over from the spin before. It grants 1 of 5 guaranteed jackpots: Ultra, Mega, Major, Minor and Mini. The segment the wheel stops on decides which of the five is paid.

How the jackpot values climb

Progress is added to the jackpot for that specific reel every time a Jackpot Trigger symbol lands on a reel, and it climbs by 0.5x the bet. The five figures sit above the reels while the base game runs, reading 42.00, 601.50, 3,006.00, 153.00 and 19.50 from left to right at my 3.00 stake, with the Free Spins Multiplier meter padlocked at 1X below them. When one of these jackpots is granted, it reverts to its starting value. Those starting values are 3,000.00 for Ultra, 600.00 for Mega, 150.00 for Major, 30.00 for Minor and 15.00 for Mini, and they scale with the bet. The Ultra ranges from 3,000.00 up to a maximum of 15,000.00, and the feature can trigger in the base game and in the free spins, but never on a spin that triggers the free spins. Above their own starting points, Mega tops out at 3,000.00, Major at 750.00, Minor at 300.00 and Mini at 225.00.

The Minty Summary: Across 230 spins at a 3.00 stake I ended 120.9% up. Two free spins rounds paid 63.0x and 69.0x the stake, with 47% of everything won coming out of the feature, but there was also a stretch of 20 spins without a single win.

From four free spins to at least six

The Free Spins bonus is triggered when 1 or more scatters have landed on every reel, upon which 4 free spins are granted. The trigger itself pays 1x the total bet, and a retrigger pays 1x the total bet multiplied by the Free Spins Multiplier. Every scatter that landed adds either 1 more free spin or 1x to the multiplier, so the feature always starts with at least 6. That meter can also be built before the round, rising 0.5x whenever scatters land on exactly four reels in the base game, to a ceiling of 10x accumulated that way and 15x by the time the round begins. The bonus plays on the same reels as the base game. Scatters may land stacked in the base game and pay from any position, and the bet and ways played stay as they were on the triggering spin. In it, what matters is that the multiplier is locked for the duration of the feature and applies to every way win, and that the round is retriggerable for the same count it started with. Neither a retrigger nor a Jackpot Wheel spin can arrive on the last free spin of the round, and the meter drops back to 1x once the round is over.

What 230 spins at 3.00 did

That was 690.00 wagered against 834.30 returned, moving the balance from 99,963.40 to 100,107.70. The two feature rounds landed on spins 102 and 124, 22 spins apart, and the best base game spin was 144.00 on spin 135, which was also the session peak at 100,302.10. Rising Rewards does a touch more than the usual ways slot. Fifty-six of the 230 spins paid something, 30 of those paid back less than the 3.00 stake, and the balance never fell below 99,781.90. But it's not anywhere near being inventive enough to make slot nerds like me go wild.
