The gameplay happens on a 5x4 reel layout. It is landing 20 symbols with every spin. Each of those 20 positions acts as its own reel when MultiWay Xtra is in play.

Being a payline slot, wins happen when identical symbols link across the 40 paylines, and at the maximum 80-coin wager, MultiWay Xtra contributes 1,024 ways on top of the line wins. Line wins pay for 3 to 5 matching symbols on a played line, left to right from reel 1.
Treasures of Troy's paytable, from bottom to top, comprises J, Q, K, A, Helmet, Sword, Menelaus, Paris, Achilles, and Helen, and there is a wild, the Treasures of Troy symbol. The wild substitutes for all symbols except the Trojan Horse. It does not show on reel 1, though. Rather, it turns up on reels 2-5 exclusively. In one of my base-game line wins, the wild landed on reel 2 as part of the line.
What the Trojan Horse does on reel 3
One of the earliest details you spot when Treasures of Troy begins spinning is the MultiWay Xtra, which is live at the maximum 80-coin wager and is joined by free spins. Crown of Egypt and Siberian Storm are two other IGT games that also use MultiWay Xtra.
Beginning with MultiWay Xtra, it rewards identical symbols anywhere on adjacent reels from reel 1, and it is awarded on top of line wins. MultiWay Xtra wins have their own paytable, which stays the same in the base game and in free spins. The prize is multiplied if more than one identical symbol is stacked in a column. For example, 2 matching symbols on reel 1, 1 on reel 2, 3 on reel 3 and 2 on reel 4 pay 2 x 1 x 3 x 2 = 12 times that symbol's MultiWay Xtra award.
Trojan Horses serve as scatter symbols. The wild does not substitute for them. Hitting 2 or more on reel 3 award free spins, and you receive free spins correspondingly, depending on the count of triggering scatters:
- 2 scatters - launches the bonus with 10 free spins.
- 3 scatters - launches the bonus with 15 free spins.
- 4 scatters - launches the bonus with 20 free spins.
A separate reel set is employed at the triggering wager during free spins. Line wins in free spins pay slightly differently from the base game. Furthermore, 2 or more Trojan Horses on reel 3 retrigger the round. None of my five bonus rounds retriggered. They append the initially granted count of spins, up to 130 free spins per round. Four of my five triggers came with 4 Trojan Horses and 20 free spins, and the other with 3 Trojan Horses and 15.
Final Minty Score: One bonus round on spin 339 paid 930x the stake and turned a 430.22 balance into 1,916.62, which is most of why 470 spins at a 95.03% game came back at 324.2%. The other four rounds paid 238.40 between them.

Naturally, the exterior packaging of a slot is no sign of what is happening beneath the skin, and there we discover a maths model that is moderately volatile and possibly lucrative. The five bonus rounds paid 1,726.40 between them, 71% of everything I won. One point to be certain on is MultiWay Xtra is solely live at the maximum 80-coin wager. Below that, wins come from the 40 lines alone. This might not be obvious at first. Yet it's no deal-breaker once you've come to terms with the restrictions. The first bonus arrived on spin 113, and the gaps between the later ones ran 75, 57, 94 and 74 spins. Seeing your balance fall from 200.00 to 21.74 before the bonuses headed my way can be hard. My balance peaked at 1,942.86 on spin 413.
