Respin 7s is a video slot with 5 reels, 3 rows and 5 win lines. There is no line count to set; all five are active on every game. The red 7 changes state in the bonus

Four red 7s lock the grid

Respin 7s does have a conventional free spins game. Five red 7s anywhere on the grid award 5 Free Spins, played on a separate reel set at the bet that triggered them. The game's outstanding feature is the respin, though, and it is triggered as soon as 4 red 7s land in any position during a base game spin. Position is the whole of the condition — the four do not have to sit on a line — and the respin comes on top of any non-red-7 line wins. While the leftover reel spins again, the reels bearing a red 7 lock for the respin. In the frames I captured, a banner announced the respin and four reels sat frozen with their red 7s while the fifth kept turning.

All wins except red 7 wins are paid on the triggering spin during the respin. A respin cannot award a further respin, and it runs on a different reel set from the base game. The red 7 wins and Free Spins are granted after the respin has landed, and as an extra bonus one can land a fifth red 7 on the respin. Whatever that fifth symbol pays is settled at the trigger bet, since respins use the pays and lines of the spin that started them. This carries the round into the Free Spins. One captured frame shows the hand-off: a screen reading that 5 Free Spins have been won, then free spin 1 with a 5.20 win on it and the counter reading Spins Played 1 / 5.

Spin Chance wagers the remainder

Respin 7s is an uncomplicated slot there is no doubt about that, and it's a pity however that the engine behind it is not on the same level of generosity. Five lines, one wild that only shows up in the bonus, two features that both count red 7s, and a studio that keeps rebuilding around the same symbol in Sticky Stacked Fire 7's and Burn 7s Burn. But the respin is the feature with the looser trigger condition, at four red 7s against five, and there is also a Spin Chance. Spin Chance fires automatically rather than on request. When credit drops below the cost of play but remains above zero, the leftover credit may be wagered on a green/red meter for one more spin at the current bet. The green and red segments are sized against the remaining credit as a share of the bet, so the less there is left, the less green there is to land on.
