Titan Storm has been one of the most discussed slots in the world of online slots for years now. It was originally released under NextGen Gaming and now sits in the Light & Wonder catalogue. Many fans deem it a genuine classic. I put 400 spins through it at a 1.00 stake to see how the classic pays now. Even so, it still stays one of the most favoured slots on the market to this day. Those spins returned 474.50 against 400.00 wagered, taking the balance from 1,000.00 to 1,074.50.

The slot concentrates on delivering a rather ordinary 5x3, 243 ways arrangement, taking its hints from many other online slots at the time of its launch, and it arrives with a base game scatter pay that can supply wins out of the blue. Of the 400 spins I played, 117 paid something, and 65 of those returned less than the stake. Stakes run from as little as 0.25 up to 250.00 per spin. Mine ran at 1.00 throughout.

As is usual for Light & Wonder, the studio has really gone to town with the overall styling of this slot, and the result is a walk through Greek legend. Light & Wonder went back to the same mythology in Medusa Megaways, and Pragmatic Play's Greek Gods draws on it too. Gods and goddesses gaze down from above and winged creatures circle the reels. Behind the reels, there’s a storm rolling in as well. The balance moved between a low of 964.90 and a peak of 1,109.90, which arrived on spin 218.

The basic symbols showing up in this slot are the commonly seen card rank symbols. They have all been given a Greek styling to them. The sword and the mask sit between those and the gods in the pay order. Meanwhile, the higher paying symbols are pertinent to the game’s theme, with the gods, the goddesses, a blade and a mask being in view on the reels; the golden temple doors are the scatter though. The scatter lands on reels 2, 3 and 4 only, the same three reels the wild is confined to. Three or more of them pay out a multiple of the total bet.

Ten free games and a five-times multiplier

Titan Storm may not be the world’s most packed slot as far as features go. There is also a gamble on a win, which stakes it on the colour of a card for double or on its suit for four times. But there are a couple which do the real work, so watch out for the appearance of the slot’s wild symbol. It turns up on reels 2, 3 and 4 only and can substitute for every other ordinary symbol to help build winning combinations.

The slot’s finest built-in feature though, is the Free Games round, and to be able to activate this, it takes three scatter and/or wild symbols into view on reels 2, 3 and 4. Six triggers came in across my 400 spins. The golden temple doors depict the scatter. When that lands, the game awards 10 free games in total, played at the triggering stake, and as an extra added benefit during this round, every 5 of a kind win is multiplied by five. Those six rounds paid 217.60 between them, 46% of everything the session won.

The other thing worth noting is that the wild and the scatter combine during the free games round, which means that whenever one comes into sight, it behaves as a single Scatter/Wild symbol that substitutes for everything on the reels. The best of my six rounds was worth 97.00 on the 1.00 stake, on spin 151. These keep substituting for other symbols. The smallest gave back 3.40, seven spins after that one. If three Scatter/Wild symbols land, the feature is retriggered.

Minty Slots Verdict: Six Free Games rounds paid 217.60 of the 474.50 this session won, which is 46% of the return coming out of a feature that showed up on six spins in 400. The base game filled the other 283 spins with small change and 65 wins that did not cover the stake. That is the whole character of Titan Storm in one ratio, and whether it suits anyone depends entirely on how they feel about waiting for temple doors.

95.45% against a 400-spin run

This is one of Light & Wonder’s older slots, and it still holds up against many of the more recent launches, without much modern decoration. The published RTP is 95.45%, and my 400 spins came back at 118.6%, which is the sort of gap a run that short is entitled to produce.

The visual aspect of Titan Storm is one thing. The longest stretch I went without a win was 11 spins, ending on spin 90. The wager range appeals to a broad variety of players, giving everyone an opportunity to join in on the search for Scatter/Wilds.
