Four percent of my winnings came out of the x4 Free Games, the one bonus Almighty Sparta keeps behind its Spartan Shield Scatters. Over 340 spins at a 10-credit stake a single base-game hit of 113 times the stake outpaid that whole round, and the session still returned 74.9% against a stated 96.09%.
Endorphina's Almighty Sparta carries players to old Sparta and, as well as stacked wilds, players get free games, a x4 win multiplier, and a card Risk Game for doubling wins. In the Risk Game a win is doubled by picking a card higher than the dealer's, and it can be gambled up to 10 times in a row.
Here, players can pick stakes from 0.10 to 90 per spin. My session ran 340 spins at 10.00 each from a starting balance of 10,000.00. Beginning with a theoretical RTP of 96.09% and a 5,000x win cap, figures are respectable by most measures. Over those spins I wagered 3,400.00 and got back 2,546.00, a session return of 74.9%.
Almighty Sparta's Spartan play unfolds on a 5-reel, 10 payline layout. The reels show 3 rows, and the 10 paylines are fixed. Its line wins pay for 3, 4 or 5 matching symbols. Scatter wins are the exception, paying for Spartan Shields anywhere on the reels.
As for the paytable, 6 card royals form the low value symbols (9-A). A and K pay 20x the stake for five on a line, while Q, J, 10 and 9 pay 10x. Top pays comprise spears, swords, Ephialtes, the Oracle of Delphi, and Xerxes as the bigger payers, and paying combos of 5 premium symbols vary in worth from 50 to 500 times the stake. Xerxes heads that group, paying 500x for five and 50x for four.
Leonidas wild symbols land stacked on reels 2, 3 and 4. A stack fills all three rows of its reel. They substitute for every symbol except the Scatter to finish a win. On my eighth spin a stacked Wild on reel 2 completed a 5.00 win on line 8 in a spin that paid 31.00, with a Bonus Pop bubble showing on screen.
Aside from the stacked wilds, Almighty Sparta isn't a slot with a heap of added features, and Spartan Shield scatter symbols are the doorway to the bonus game. The Shields also pay on their own, from 2x the stake for two up to 500x for five. 3 or more landing award 20 free games, and landing 3 or more further scatter symbols during the round awards another 20 free games. My only round came on spin 159, where three Scatters paid 50.00 and dealt 20 Free Games that did not retrigger. In the bonus game, what shifts is that every win is multiplied x4. The round itself paid 40.00 at x4, making 90.00 in all, or 9.0x the stake.
Minty’s Final Note: The label says 96.09% and my 340 spins handed back 74.9%, with the Free Games contributing one round, 90.00 and 4% of everything I won. The single biggest hit, 113 times the stake on spin 102, arrived with no multiplier anywhere near it.
Almighty Sparta is a stacked-wilds slot. Endorphina's Buffalo 50 is also built around a stacked Wild and has the same card Risk Game. But I truly have to be into stacked wilds, because there isn't a great deal happening otherwise, and the base game leans on the stacked wilds to supply the majority of the fun to the exclusion of just about everything else. In my session only 46 of 340 spins paid, and 15 of those paid less than the stake. Stacked wilds land every so often to notch up a small win. The longest run without a win lasted 24 spins, ending on spin 62. If I want diversity in my play, though, even they can begin to wear thin after a spell. My biggest win, 1,130.00 or 113.0x the stake on spin 102, came in the base game.
Win multipliers are a dependable path to take if a slot ever requires some kind of mechanism to ramp up the play. They've been put to use in Almighty Sparta. Here the x4 applies only in Free Games, which produced 90.00 of the 2,546.00 I won, or 4%.
It does go to prove, however, that potential isn't everything. The balance peaked at 10,656.00 on spin 164 after a 540.00 win, then ended the session at its lowest point of 9,146.00. Even the theme is run of the mill. Pragmatic Play's Spartan King also takes a Spartan theme. Almighty Sparta's features can pay and potential is nothing to be scoffed at, yet despite the promising figures, Almighty Sparta might come across a bit dull if I sense the old Sparta theme has been worn out or like a bit more diversity or novelty.
