Fae Legend Warrior is a bright slot full of vigour. It seeks to recapture the essence of ancient fairy lore, not the saccharine flower-fairy of the picture books, but the elder sort, the kind that bore a blade and chose sides in a conflict. This is back when the fae were something you set milk out for so they'd leave you undisturbed, and when armour counted more than wings. If a fairy took an interest in you, that was seldom good news. Folklore was a principal avenue for interpreting the world, but the fae bled over into heraldry, art and superstition. All of this lore has been stuffed into Eyecon's Fae Legend Warrior. Eyecon also made Fluffy Favourites and Stampede, both of which are on the site. It is not short on features either. The two on offer are the Free Games Bonus and the Prize Pick Bonus.

Five reels, 25 lines and one busy golden key

The game operates on a 5-reel, 3-row layout with 25 paylines. Review sources have wins paying from left to right along those lines.

Review sources place the blonde Fairy at the top of the paytable with 5,000 times the line bet for five of a kind, then 1,000x, 500x, 300x, 200x and 100x down the symbol set. The same sources put the purple-haired Fairy on the second step, with the helmet and the hammer sharing the one below it.

There is one symbol performing double duty: the Scattered Key is the Scatter that launches the free games, and review sources also label it the Wild, substituting in line wins and doubling any win it joins. As a Scatter the keys count from across the reels rather than along a line.

Two Scatters, two different bonuses

In keeping with the lore theme come two bonuses, and the Scattered Key is the one you want. Both of them start from Scatters rather than from a payline combination. Land 3, 4 or 5 of them and you are granted 15, 20 or 25 free games respectively. Two keys on the reels contribute nothing toward the round, whatever else the spin pays, because the third is what opens it. The round can be retriggered up to 15 times, and review sources claim all wins are tripled during it. The one round I reached ran its 25 games through to the end without a reactivation.

The second Scatter is the Fairy Warrior. It does nothing further at all, but land 3 or more and you unlock the Prize Pick Bonus, where you select pieces of armour to multiply your prize, and review sources place the cap at 100x the bet and depict one pick per triggering symbol. On that reading, five Fairy Warriors at once would mean five picks.

Minty’s Final Note: Three hundred and fifty spins turned up one Free Games Bonus, and that single round paid 32.00 against the 129.10 the whole session won back. The base game produced the other 97.10 in scraps, a lot of them under the stake.

What 350 spins did to a 1,000 balance

Fae Legend Warrior is not crammed with features. That can be a little sparse at first, but it swiftly starts to make sense, and what I've found is that the game is very volatile. Over the session the balance went from 1,000.00 to 779.10. Triggering the bonus naturally can be a real chore. The lowest the balance got was 778.90. You cannot rely on the base game to keep you afloat for too long either, and during my stretch of 350 spins at a stake of 1.00 I saw the free games once, on spin 34, and the Prize Pick Bonus not at all. The peak of 1,003.40 came on that same spin. Three Fairy Warriors never landed. In total I wagered 350.00 and won 129.10 back.

Much of the RTP is probably assigned to the bonuses, although there is not a lot happening in the base game. My biggest base-game win was 12.80, on spin 140. That lone Free Games Bonus, five Scattered Keys for the full 25 games, paid 32.00 - a quarter of that 129.10 - and then again, that is the bargain a volatile slot offers.

Fae Legend Warrior is one of those slots where the bonus can have a major impact on the result of a session, and my 350 spins returned at 36.9%, with 62 paying spins and 30 of those paying less than the stake. Below the 12.80 came 10.00 on spin 264 and 6.80 on spin 277. There was a 19-spin stretch without a win in the middle of it.
