Thirty pay lines under a tired seascape

The symbol that fills in for the others in Sirens is the same one that pays the most, so the wild I am waiting on is also the combination I am waiting for. Certain providers, such as WMS and Novomatic, have a flair for crafting retro-type games, and they do this very ably. In this case, regrettably, the visuals come across as dated. As already noted, visually the game lacks impact. Midnight Eclipse and Dangerous Beauty are built to the same pattern, five reels on fixed pay lines, with 40 of them each against this game's 30. The theme seems generic and dated. The picture symbols are three sirens, a sailor and a hawk, with A, K, Q, J and 10 beneath them.

Sixteen lines from a single stack of logos

Line wins pay on played lines, left to right from the leftmost reel. Each line pays at the bet per line, while the scatters in the bonus round pay on the total bet instead. Only the highest win per line pays, and the most rewarding of them is the Sirens logo, awarding 2500 for five of a kind. The free games use the same pay table as the base game.

The Sirens logo serves a multi-purpose: as well as being the top line symbol, it also functions as the wild. It stands in for everything except the Bonus harp in the base game, and for everything except B, O, N, U and S in the bonus. On one spin at the 60-credit stake I had two stacked logo wilds filling the top two positions of reel one, three hawks stacked on reel two and two more on reel three; the game announced sixteen lines at once and a pay of 480, eight times the stake, with the win meter still reading zero mid-animation. Collect B, O, N, U and S during the free games, and once they finish the game starts the Multiplier Bonus, which operates as follows:

Six harps are shown - choose a harp to reveal a 3x, 4x, 5x or 10x multiplier. The round ends when no picks remain. That is then applied to the amount won during the Free Spins Bonus. The letters that start it only appear during the free games, one to each reel from left to right.

Three harps, four harps, five harps

The Free Spins Bonus is activated by landing 3 or more Bonus harps anywhere on reels 1 to 5. My first trigger came on spin 32 and the second on spin 75, 43 spins later. Once activated, the count of Bonus harps that landed determines the overall number of free games won, and the options are: 7, 10, or 15. Three harps pay 7, four pay 10 and five pay 15; I drew 15 the first time and 10 the second.

During the free games, wins also pay right to left, finishing with the rightmost reel. The free games run on a different set of reels, on the same lines and at the same bet per line as the spin that triggered them. B, O, N, U and S become scatter symbols paying 1x to 5x the total bet for one to five of them, and it is not possible to re-trigger the feature. Neither of my rounds extended itself, and the two of them paid 720 and 1,800 credits.

Production-wise it's not the most thrilling game. On the spin that triggered the first bonus, the base game paid 108 credits before the free games began.
