Thundering Buffalo Slot – Free Demo
Provider:
High 5 Games
Three rounds of 16 free spins did most of the work here: they paid 38,100.00, or 57% of what I won over 480 spins at 150.00. The label promises 1000x and a 94.90% RTP; I got 111x at best and a 92.3% return, which is close enough to be annoying and far enough to be interesting.

A 1000x Promise on 720 Ways
Despite having been accessible for years, I couldn't seem to find any remarkable wins while reading up about the slot, and this of course doesn't signify it has never occurred. My own session ran to 480 spins at a stake of 150.00. But I'd be really surprised to witness the complete 1000x win on this slot. The best result in those 480 spins was 16,650.00, or 111x the stake, and it came from a free spins round on spin 234. It is promoted as having a 1000x max win potential. The session as a whole returned 92.3%, with 72,000.00 wagered and 66,450.00 won.
Thundering Buffalo is a 5-reel, 3-4-5-4-3 slot with 720 ways and a 94.90% RTP, and players are permitted to wager between €0.50 - €50. Wins pay for three or more matching symbols on adjacent reels, counted from the left and from the right.
Buffalos, Totem Poles and Stacked Wilds
Symbols on the reels comprise buffalos, totem poles, teepees and A, K, Q, J and 10. The Totem Pole pays 400x the bet for five of a kind and the Teepee 300x. The buffalo is the top payer, earning 1000x for 5 across neighbouring reels. The best base game win in my session was 9,000.00 on spin 12, which is 60x the stake. The slot also contains a wild symbol that lands stacked on reels 2, 3 and 4. It substitutes for every symbol except the Scatter and the Free Spins symbol.
It contains a scatter symbol as well, which doesn't trigger any features but hands out wins without having to land on a line, and 5 scatter symbols are worth 50x. Three Scatters pay 2x the bet and four pay 10x.
There are heaps of Free Spins symbols on the reels. Of course they can culminate in the free spins bonus. In my 480 spins that happened three times, on spins 234, 267 and 374.
Sixteen Spins, Three Times
A Free Spins symbol on all five reels triggers the Free Spins bonus, and 8 free spins are granted. Each of the three rounds in my session opened with 16 free spins, and none of them retriggered. Additional Free Spins symbols lift the count up to 96. The feature can also be retriggered during free spins, up to 240 free spins in total. High 5 Games promotes a 1000x max win. My three bonus rounds paid 111x, 103x and 40x the stake, and together they made up 57% of everything I won. But I remain doubtful about this claim.
The Minty Breakdown: A 92.3% return over 480 spins, held up against 94.90% on the label, with three bonus rounds carrying 57% of the winnings and the best of them stopping at 111x, nowhere near the advertised 1000x.
Where Thundering Buffalo Leaves Me
With a 1000x max win potential, Thundering Buffalo is a high volatility slot. Across my 480 spins only 88 paid anything, and 44 of those returned less than the stake.
I'm not a big fan of this slot, personally. The longest dry run in my session lasted 38 spins, ending on spin 129, and the balance finished 5,550.00 below where it started.
