Triple Diamond is a 3-reel video slots run on 9 paylines, and it's playable on all devices. The grid is three rows deep, and both the number of paylines played and the bet per line are selectable. A combination of three identical symbols along any payline forms a win. Lines pay left to right, and every symbol in the combination has to sit on a line you have paid for. This is quite a straightforward game. There is no bonus round and nothing to trigger, so every payout comes from the three reels stopping. There really isn't much clarifying required.

What the diamond does to a bar line

Triple Diamond contains 4 low paying symbols. The weakest result of all is the Any Bar win, three non-matching bars together, worth 5x the line bet. They are depicted by the following symbols: 3x Bars, 2x Bars, single Bars and any combination of non-matching bars, the same ladder that carries Triple Gold Bars. The green single Bar pays 10x the line bet and the pink 2x Bar pays 20x. The best one, the 3x Bar, pays 40x the line bet, while the top symbol is the Red Seven, the most valuable of all standard symbols, granting a return of 100x the line bet. Early in my session, playing all 9 lines at 0.20 each for a 1.80 total bet, three green Bars filled line 9 and paid 2.00 as part of a 4.00 total win, nudging the balance to 200.40.

The wild symbol bears the Triple Diamond. Three of them are worth nearly twelve times what a line of Red Sevens pays. It is the most prized one, being worth 1,199x the line bet for three of them on a payline. The Triple Diamond wild matches any other symbol on the payline. That holds whether one or two of them appear in the combination. It multiplies as it goes: a three-symbol line win with one Triple Diamond pays 3x, with two Triple Diamond symbols 9x, and diamonds also pay on their own — two diamonds with a blank pay 10x the line bet, and a single diamond that produces no line win pays 2x. A green Bar line completed by one diamond therefore returns 30x the line bet instead of 10x. Only the highest win pays per payline. My longest run without a win of any kind was 11 spins, ending on spin 205. Concurrent wins on different lines are added together. The largest single result I saw was 239.40 on spin 125, from a 1.80 bet.

Where the 164.3% came from

Even though the theme, which is bare bones to say the least, certainly splits audiences, the Diamond slots, Double Diamond included, have proven to perform well for IGT. My run of 440 spins took the balance from 200.00 to 708.86. This game is not for everyone and surely not if you're into high volatility, high potential slots. The balance never dropped below 163.82 over that run. My hunch is that this was intended more as a light hearted, feel-good kind of game. Every win across those 440 spins came from line combinations alone. It was aimed towards the casual gambler and not the hardcore set of players. The peak came late, 726.14 on spin 421.

The max win is 1,199 times the line bet, and the only route to attain this is by landing three Triple Diamond symbols on a payline; unless you do that, there won't be much to win here to be honest. Two diamonds with a blank on the same line pay 10x the line bet, which is as far as a near miss gets you. Over 440 spins at 1.80 a spin I wagered 792.00 and recouped 1,300.86, a 164.3% return. Spin 382 added 82.80 and spin 309 another 43.20. But the two best spins were only 133x and 122x the stake, and 101 of my 178 paying spins paid less than the stake.
