Five Sevens anywhere on the reels start the free games, and the Seven only turns wild once they do. In 480 spins at 5.00 that happened exactly once, on spin 151, for a 250.00 round; the rest of the run leaned on Bells, fruit and the mystery spots on the middle reels.
Bonus Sevens Wild from studio Light & Wonder has adopted what seems to be a conventional method at first. The in-game help panel lists it as Bonus 7s Wild. The Sevens can toss up the occasional surprise or two during the bonus round, though. Over my 480 spins the free games came up once. It won't win too many novelty points. Apparat Gaming's 100 Sevens and 1x2 Gaming's Sparkling 777s are other slots built on the same sevens theme. But it does hold a few mechanics that might fit some punters. The main one is a set of mystery symbol positions on reels 2, 3 and 4.
RTP doesn't stand out. It has a firmly middling score of 96.0%. My own session returned 64.0%, with 1,535.00 won against 2,400.00 wagered.
The play is straightforward, beginning with a layout that employs 5 reels, 3 rows, and 5 paylines, and winning combos are formed of three or more identical symbols on a payline, dropping successively from the first or final reel onwards. The five lines are the three rows straight across, plus a V shape and an inverted V.
No major surprises when pulling up the paytable, as up front there is a cherry, an orange, a plum, a bell, and the seven. Only the highest win on each line is paid. There are merely 5 pay symbols. Line pays are multiplied by the payline bet, which at my 5.00 stake was 1.00. Yet they do provide reasonably decent value, with 5 sevens worth 2,000 times the line bet. Spread over the 5 lines, that top prize comes to 400 times the total stake, while five Bells on a line pay 100 times the stake.
Bonus Sevens Wild has been strengthened by a distinctive symbol punters need to be conscious of, the 7 Wild. In the base game the Seven plays as an ordinary paying symbol, and it only becomes the 7 Wild once the free games start. It shows in free games to perform substitution tasks, and the wild supplants any other symbol to help form a winning combo. The free game paytable is identical to the base game one, so the 7 Wild pays the same as the Seven it replaces.
At the beginning of each spin, the mystery symbol spots on reels 2, 3 and 4 transform into the identical symbol per reel. They do so to alter the present spin, and each reel's mystery spots, picked at random, turn either a 7 or a Bell.
Maintain an eye out for the Seven symbols, since landing any 5 Sevens activates the Free Games feature. The free games use the same bet and lines as the spin that triggered them. It grants 5 free games. They also run on different reels from the base game.
Landing any 5 7 Wilds grants 5 extra free games, and the feature proceeds up to a cap of 50 free games. My one round, on spin 151, ran its 5 games with no retrigger and paid 250.00, 50 times the stake.
The Minty Take: A 96% game handed me back 64.0% over 480 spins, and one free games round did a sixth of that work on its own. The machinery is honest enough: five lines, a Seven that turns wild only in the bonus, and mystery spots that pick 7 or Bell. I just saw five Sevens line up once, on spin 151, and spent the other 329 spins waiting for an encore.
What seemed to be rather basic fare at first ceded ground to interest when the free games and 7 Wilds were spotted on the paytable, and then the delay settled in. 150 spins passed by in my session before free games eventually showed up. They did not come back in the remaining 329 spins of the 480 I played. Of course, fortune is fortune. Across the session, 154 of the 480 spins paid something, and 84 of those paid less than the 5.00 stake.
But if fortune's not on your side while playing Bonus Sevens Wild, very little else occurs, so much so that it's extremely simple to lose tolerance and eagerness with the entire undertaking. My balance peaked at 2,004.00 on spin 4, sank as low as 1,126.00 and closed at 1,135.00. Free games proved fine when they did emerge. That single round's 250.00 was the biggest win of the session and 16% of everything I won. But they were nothing to call home about.
The maths model behind Bonus Sevens Wild generated runs of empty or low-worth spins. The longest stretch without any win was 17 spins, ending on spin 438. Landing a cluster of Sevens aids, since they open the sole engaging portion of the slot, but apart from free game wins, the game doesn't possess a whole lot else to it. Outside the free games, the best wins were 135.00 on spin 281 and 100.00 on spin 300.
Catch Bonus Sevens Wild when it's in a generous mood and it might be fine for a spot of understated entertainment, though it's distant from being a world-beater by any measure.
