Seventeen Fire Bells held on a 5x4 grid merged into a 3x3, a 2x2 and a 4x1 block and paid 49 times the stake in my one Hold & Respin round. Playtech's Fire Fighter pairs that feature with six Free Games in which Flames become Wilds or Fire Bells before the reels stop.
In this assessment there is a firehouse Hold & Respin slot I'm going to look at. It is Playtech's Fire Blaze Fire Fighter. Playtech has other Fire Blaze titles as well, among them Fire Blaze: Blue Wizard PowerPlay Jackpot and Fire Blaze Golden: Amazing Factory.
Fire Blaze Fire Fighter is a 5-reel, 4-row slot with 40 pay lines and an RTP of 95.92%. I played it at 10 credits a spin from a balance of 10,000 credits, and a 61-credit line win on spin 4 lifted the balance to 10,021, the highest it stood all session.
There are no surprises involved when it comes to the symbols, and on the reels you will spot the usual royal values as well as the foursome of firefighting symbols. These are a Dalmatian, a fire truck, a helmet and a fire extinguisher. Of those four, the Dalmatian pays most at 5 times the stake for five on a line, which the Wild matches, while five fire extinguishers pay 1.6 times the stake. However, the most profitable is the Fire Fighter badge scatter. It will award you 50 times the stake should you hit 5 anywhere on the reels. The Wild substitutes for every symbol except the Fire Bell and the scatter, and it can land on reel 1 only during Free Games.
The Fire Fighter badge functions as the scatter, and if you hit 3 or more of them you'll be given entry to the Free Games feature. Three of them also pay once the stake, and four pay 10 times the stake. There are 6 games from the outset. My only Free Games round came on spin 300, and 3 scatters inside it added 6 games to the opening 6, 12 in all, for 580 credits, 58 times the stake.
Now, on every free game Flames will emerge over 1 or more spots. Before the reels halt they will transform into Wild or Fire Bell symbols, and retriggers are achievable too, with 3 or more scatters adding 6 extra games during the feature. Eight or more Fire Bells in any position, in the base game or during Free Games, start the Fire Blaze Hold & Respin feature with 3 respins, and each new Fire Bell is held and resets the count to 3.
The top prize is attained by covering all 20 spots with Fire Bells in the Fire Blaze Hold & Respin feature. That will culminate in the Grand, a 2000 times the stake win. Adjacent held Bells merge into larger blocks, and when the respins run out each block reveals a prize tied to its size, from 1x the stake for a lone Bell to 30x, 25x, a Mini or a Minor for a 3x3.
Without really having a data sheet accessible or having carried out thousands of spins, it's difficult to state anything about the hit frequency and balancing.
Minty Slots Verdict: My only Hold & Respin round, on spin 279, held 17 Fire Bells that formed a 3x3 block at 30x, a 2x2 block at 15x and a 4x1 block at 4x, 490 credits or 49 times the stake.
My impression, having played Fire Blaze Fire Fighter for a time, is that it's quite volatile. The session ended at 9,219 credits after 3,200 wagered and 2,419 won, and the longest run without a win lasted 23 spins. It is something that is founded on a single session of 320 spins, however, so don't accept my word for it.
