Mega Joker Slot – Free Demo

Provider: PopOK Gaming
The joker in Mega Joker never lands on the outside reels. It turns up on two, three and four only, and when it completes a line it swallows the whole reel and holds it there for a respin. Three respins is as far as that can run. The rest of the machine is fruit.

A plain fruit machine with a joker in it

Let's just begin by stating that the initial impression was far from the best, and at first glance it seems bland, uninspired and drab. There is no bonus buy, so the only way to reach the wild is to keep spinning. It is as if it lacks that additional dimension you wish to see in a slot. PopOK Gaming puts the hit frequency at 15.06%. I realise, however, that even simple slots can turn into classics. I settled on 250 spins at a stake of 1.00. That is why I continued spinning the reels to look further into the unknown.

Mega Joker is a 5-reel, 3-row video slot with 10 fixed paylines, and it holds nine symbols and pays in both directions. Those lines are fixed, so every spin costs the full stake. It is playable from 0.02 to 100. I ran the whole of my session at 1.00 a spin. The game offers expanding wilds on the three central reels and respins that keep those reels in place. Reels 1 and 5 never carry a wild. There is also a red-or-black double up on what the respins pay. The Double button becomes active whenever a spin has paid.

Paying in both directions on ten fixed lines

Cudos to PopOK Gaming for the straightforward paytable! Every prize in it is for a combination of a kind. It is presented in cash value corresponding to the current bet size setting. Change the stake and each figure in the table moves with it. Combinations pay both ways here, left to right and right to left, except for 5 of a kind. Where the two directions overlap only the largest win on the line is paid, while wins on different pay ways are summed together.

There is no scatter symbol present in the game as it lacks a reel-triggered free spins feature. Any free rounds you meet come from the operator rather than the reels, at a stake and line count you cannot change. The wild, here the Expanding Wild, plays a very important role, however.

What the Expanding Wild does when it lands

In terms of features, the game contains the Expanding Wild, which lands on reels 2, 3 and 4 only and substitutes for every symbol on its own reel. The substitution pays the highest combination available on that line. When it creates a winning line it expands over the entire reel and grants a respin, keeping that reel while the others spin again. More than one of the three middle reels can expand on the same spin. The Joker Respins carry on as long as fresh wilds are added to the reels. Wilds that arrive during a respin expand in the same way. Each one expands and grants another respin while the covered reels remain locked, up to a maximum of 3. Reaching that cap means landing a fresh wild on each successive respin. There's more to it than that, however.

Provided it is at or under the cap stated in the paytable, what the round pays can then be carried into Double Win. The offer comes once all the respins have finished. You choose red or black on a face-down card. The card flashes between the two colours before you commit. Correct doubles the total and deals another card, incorrect loses it, Take banks it, and a meter displays how many tries you have left.

Minty’s Final Note: The most 250 spins gave up was 282 times the stake, on spin 17, against a ceiling PopOK Gaming puts at more than 1,100 times. No other spin in the run got past 90 times.

The high point was spin 17

According to data from PopOK Gaming, I'm looking at a low volatility slot with a max win of more than 1,100 times the stake. My biggest spin of the run, number 17, paid 282.0x the stake. It's not a slot for those seeking memorable dream hits. Spin 167 paid 90.0x, and no other spin in the run passed 40x. My 250 spins confirm that: 103 of them paid something, and 59 of those less than the stake. The longest run without a win was 9 spins, ending on spin 193. The balance never fell more than a handful of units below where it began. The low point was 99,987.50 and the peak 100,380.40 on spin 235. There are, however, many more amusing and potentially more lucrative slots I could think of.

Mega Joker seems drab visually, as if something is absent, and it fails badly to captivate me; I simply don't sense the excitement nor intensity. Spin 92 paid 38.0x the stake and spin 233 paid 34.9x. An online slot that lacks the potential for huge wins needs to make up for it in some other respect. My 250 spins wagered 250.00 and returned 616.30. That potential alone can get your heart pounding. That works out at a session return of 246.5%. Regrettably, it doesn't happen here.
