There are a couple of matters that need to be raised regarding Vbet 21 before I get properly into it. They might spoil the charm a bit for some. Popping the hood to inspect the machinery, it's worth noting that the RTP arrives at 95.58%; it is on the modest side, and the win potential isn't enormous either, arriving at 1,543x the bet. My own run came back at 196.2%, and the largest single spin in it reached 596x. It's not a deal-breaker in any way, but simply a remark made by slot nerds. PopOK built Mega Joker to much the same shape back in December 2021 - 5 reels, 10 lines, 2 of 5 for volatility, no bonus buy - but with the RTP at 96.19.

Ten fixed lines, left to right

Here's more technical detail for you: Vbet 21 employs a 5-reel, 3-row layout with 10 fixed pay lines that pay left to right, highest win per line only. Combinations are counted from the leftmost reel rightwards, in succession. It carries with it a 4-level mystery jackpot game as well as a double gamble on lesser wins. The jackpot levels are Mini, Minor, Major and Mega. There are no free spins here, no bonus round and no bonus buy. Every win therefore has to come off the 10 lines or the two scatters. So the base game shoulders the whole return, volatility is rated 2 out of 5. That rating showed in my session, where 106 of the paying spins handed back less than the 100.00 they cost.

The 21, the dollar and the star

On the reels you'll spot an assortment of fruit symbols as well as the premium symbols. Grapes and orange lead the fruit at 70x the stake for five, with plum behind them at 20x. The seven is the most generous of them, paying you 50,000.00 for five at the 100.00 stake, and it's the only symbol on the grid that pays two of a kind. Cherry, lemon, watermelon and strawberry all sit level at 15x the stake for five.

The 21 is the wild. It appears on reels 2, 3 and 4 and substitutes for all standard symbols but not the scatters, and there are two scatters. Both pay on their own rather than leading anywhere. The dollar drops on reels 1, 3 and 5 and pays 2,000.00 for three; the star pays 500.00, 2,000.00 and 10,000.00 for three, four and five. Those are the amounts the help panel printed with the bet standing on 100.00.

The jackpot game and the Double

There isn't a pile of features to relate. First and foremost, this is a slot without a free spins round, which means that everything occurs on the 10 fixed lines of the base game. Only the highest win on each of those lines is paid.

The first "genuine" feature, then, is the jackpot game, and it is activated at random after a spin has concluded and the win has been collected. Nothing on the reels leads into it. It stretches across four levels - Mini, Minor, Major and Mega. You reveal boxes until four diamonds of one colour appear. The boxes are clicked one at a time. That's the level you receive.

Next, there is the Double, and any win of 3,500.00 or less can be gambled on red or black. That cap put the two biggest wins of my run, 59,600.00 and 4,800.00, out of reach of it. It doubles on a correct guess and is forfeited on a mistaken one. The amount can also be banked at any point with Take.

Minty Slots Verdict: One spin in 470 paid 596 times the stake and carried the whole run to 196.2%. Take that spin away and Vbet 21 is ten fixed lines, a 38% hit rate and four jackpot meters that ticked over without ever opening.

470 spins at 100 a go

I was doubtful of a sparse slot with an RTP of 95.58% initially - no free spins and a base game left to do all the work. What could possibly go wrong? The reels carry it all, since the jackpot arrives on its own schedule rather than off a combination. Well, things actually made rather more sense than anticipated, having had the chance to play it for 470 spins at the 100.00 stake.

First of all, the session returned at 196.2%, carrying a 100,000.00 balance to 145,200.00. Much of that stemmed from a single spin. Spin 53 paid 59,600.00, or 596x the stake, which is a long way beyond anything else the run generated, and after that the largest hits were 4,800.00 and 3,100.00. Below those, the best of the rest were 1,800.00 and 1,500.00. The remainder of the run acted like the low volatility rating implies it should. 178 of the 470 spins paid something, a hit rate of 38%, though 106 of those paid less than the stake back. Small wins arriving that often are what kept the balance flat between the big hits. The longest run without a win was just 11 spins, and the balance never sank below 97,930.00. Neither the jackpot game nor the Double came into play at any stage of the 470 spins.

I didn't anticipate much of Vbet 21. The Double covers wins of 3,500.00 and under, which was almost everything the base game produced here. But the trickle of small wins is going to be hard to dislike, I have to concede, and a game with no bonus round is never going to finish on top in terms of entertainment value. Overall it does the one thing it sets out to do, at least.
