Every durian Wild that lands in a winning line stretches over its reel, locks there and hands out 3 Re-spins, and in 360 spins of Lucky Durian that happened once, for 6.8 times the stake. The rest of Habanero's build is 15 fixed lines paying both ways and a Jackpot Race running underneath.
Fresh slots from Habanero? They invariably bring on a strong feeling of anticipation. My session ran to 360 spins at a stake of 7.50, and 92 of them paid, 47 of those for less than the stake.
With this fresh slot, one element in particular sticks out. It is the Locked Re-spins mechanic. It is also the only bonus round, as the game has no free spins feature.
Lucky Durian is a Habanero driven slot with 5-reels and 3 symbols per reel, and it makes use of 15 fixed paylines. These pay both ways, from the far-left reel to the right or from the far-right reel to the left, and punters can wager from 0.15 to 3,000 per spin. Each line pays only its higher combination of the two directions, and wins on different lines are added together.
The red prickly fruit is the most lucrative of all the standard symbols, as is frequently the situation. It yields a win of 250 times the line bet for 5 across a complete payline. Four of them on a line pay 60 times the line bet, which is 4 times the total stake since all 15 lines are fixed.
The durian Wild substitutes for all symbols. Five Wilds on a line pay on their own, at 1,000 times the line bet, or about 66.7 times the total stake.
It is a jackpot slot in the classic meaning of the term. The jackpot runs in phases, and once a 5-minute Race Phase opens it is guaranteed to trigger before the Race ends. The linked Jackpot Race is funded by 1% of each wager, and it has no ceiling. Habanero runs the same Jackpot Race on Hey Sushi and Hot Hot Fruit.
Punters need to watch out for an expanded Wild to trigger the Locked Re-spins mechanic. A Wild expands to cover all three positions on its reel whenever it is part of a winning combination, before that win is paid. The Wild grants 3 Re-spins. From there the expanded Wild stays locked on its reel while the other reels spin through the 3 Re-spins.

During my testing I was given the Locked Re-spins merely once in 360 spins. It came on spin 23. One expanded Wild returned 6.8 times the stake, with no retrigger. Its 3 Re-spins added up to 51.00 at my 7.50 stake. In my session at least, I gained the feeling in that respect that this mechanic was far from common. The biggest win of the session, 450.00 or 60 times the stake on spin 200, came in the base game, and the balance finished at 1,099.00 from 2,000.00.
The expanded Wilds freeze for the leftover Re-spins once the Re-spins are ongoing, and in the bonus every fresh expanded Wild grants an extra 3 Re-spins. If all 5 reels carry expanded Wilds, only 4 of them stay locked, and a random reel that was not already locked does not lock. There is no cap on retriggers. Re-spins are played at the same lines and bet as the spin that triggered them.
Minty’s Closing Thought: My one Locked Re-spins round held a single expanded Wild through its 3 Re-spins and paid 6.8 times the stake, while the 60x hit on spin 200 came out of the base game with nothing locked.
Who will be first to cover all 5 reels with expanded Wilds? And how much will it return? That is the query currently.
