Three Card Poker is a table card game from studio Habanero. I played 180 rounds of it at 20 credits a round and took the balance from 2,000 to 2,220 credits. Boasting a Pair+ bet that can return up to 40/1, it is, in brief, three-card poker against the dealer, bulked out by an Ante Bonus and the Pair+ bet. The game is dealt with 1 deck that is shuffled every round, and the RTP, meanwhile, is a number of 97.99% with optimal play. With the deck reshuffled at the start of every game, no card from one round has any bearing on the next. The Pair+ bet on its own, it's worth noting, arrives with an RTP of 97.68%. It was the only bet I placed during the session.
From Straight Flush, Three of a Kind, Straight and Flush down to One Pair and High Card, six hands feature on the hand ranking, and for anything from One Pair up to a Straight Flush the Pair+ then doles out a payout worth 1/1 to 40/1. Cards rank from 2 up to Ace, except in a Low Straight such as A-2-3, where the Ace counts as 1.
What Pair+ settles before Fold or Bet
Three Card Poker arrives with two add-ons, one an Ante Bonus settled on the Ante and the other the Pair+ bet. That bet can either be wagered alongside the Ante or on its own. Either an Ante or a Pair+ bet has to be placed before any cards are dealt.
The Ante Bonus is a simple add-on. It is settled as a multiple of the Ante bet. A Straight pays the Ante x1, Three of a Kind x4 and a Straight Flush x5. Whether the dealer qualifies or not, x1 to x5 the Ante is paid if the punter has a Straight or higher.
Laying a Pair+ bet before the deal pulls in the Pair+ return, and the punter receives 3 cards face up and the dealer 3 face down. On my Pair+-only rounds, the table then marked each hand Pair Plus Win or Pair Plus Lose. The Pair+ settles solely on the punter's own hand and is resolved before the Fold/Bet choice. With an Ante down, Fold loses the Ante and ends the game, while Bet adds a wager equal to the Ante before the dealer turns his cards.
High Card forfeits the Pair+ bet, and the round finishes there with no Ante in action. My session opened with three High Card hands in a row, 6-4-2, 9-3-2 and J-10-8, which took the balance down 20 credits at a time to 1,940, the lowest it went all session. A hand of One Pair or higher returns 1 of 5 payouts:
- Straight Flush: 40/1.
- Three of a Kind: 30/1.
- Straight: 6/1.
- Flush: 4/1.
- One Pair: 1/1.
Our Minty Verdict: Habanero puts the whole Pair+ settlement ahead of the Fold/Bet choice, so a Pair+-only round is over the moment the three cards turn. Across 180 of those rounds at 20 credits, 51 hands paid and the session closed 220 credits up, and one Three of a Kind at 30/1 on round 17 brought back 620 credits by itself.

The Ante is there to slog away against the dealer on the playing side of matters. The table reads "Dealer's Qualifying Hand – Queen or Better", and if the dealer falls short, the Ante pays even money and the Bet is returned. The Ante Bonus does surface at times, though, to shake up the rhythm and set off a win or two. On the Pair+ alone, my longest run without a win was 11 rounds, ending on round 118.
The simpler round may be found in the Pair+ bet, where the aim is to have One Pair or higher in your own three cards instead of defeating the dealer. Of my 180 rounds, 129 ended on High Card and 51 paid: 34 on One Pair, 10 on a Flush, 6 on a Straight and 1 on Three of a Kind.
Without hitting a Straight or higher, it is a lot more tricky to assemble respectable wins merely from One Pair at 1/1. My first Straight, a 9-10-J on round 4, returned 140 credits on the 20 stake, the 6/1 win plus the stake, and lifted the balance to 2,060.
In truth, a Straight Flush can be worth as much as 40/1 on the Pair+. I never hit one, and my biggest round was a Three of a Kind on round 17 that returned 620 credits, 31 times the stake.
The Pair+ bet won't be for everyone, and it can be really frustrating grinding through High Card after High Card before stacking up a respectable win.
