Cards, a lantern and a Fu medallion
Ask me about my favourite online slot theme. There’s the probability that Chinese fortune will push its way into top place, as there’s simply something about it that sits well with me and with so many other slot players as well. My session ran to 410 spins and took the balance from 2,000.00 to 2,057.20.
The slot is operated using 5 reels. Line wins pay from left to right, and wins on different lines are added together. It’s accompanied by a collection of 25 locked paylines which are not something that you’re able to adjust, but on the other hand, I played at a total wager of 2.50 credits per spin. At that stake each line carries 0.10, and line wins are multiplied by that line bet.
In Mystic Fortune the initial symbols that come into sight on the five reels are those of the playing cards: the A, K, Q, J, 10 and 9. The A and K pay from two of a kind on a line, while the Q, J, 10 and 9 need at least three. Then arrive four premium symbols, and there’s a Fu medallion, a lion dancer and an incense burner, while the final is a lantern. Five lanterns on a line return 40 times the stake, and three of them return twice the stake.
The Fu medallion is the symbol that can hand out up to 400 times your stake for 5 on a complete payline. The biggest base-game win of my session came on spin 294, which paid 92.50, or 37 times the stake.
Two ways into the phoenix round
So, what could render a slot game about Chinese fortune even finer? Extra mechanics, of course. Habanero hasn’t swamped this slot with such. But it does have one or two that make it a clear step up on just a regular base game, and the foremost of these extras is the game’s Substitute Symbol, which is depicted by the phoenix. If it lands on the reels, it will deputise for all symbols except the Scatter to assist you with building winning combos. The phoenix also pays in its own right from two on a line, and five of them on a line return 600 times the stake.
The game’s main attraction is its Free Games round, though, and there’s a particular symbol on hand that will activate this round. It functions as a scatter. Its wins are multiplied by the total bet, so two anywhere pay the stake back, three pay three times the stake and five pay 250 times. So it can land anywhere and still start the free games mechanism of Mystic Fortune, and you need at least three of these to land anywhere so that the free games mechanism starts. You’re able to activate 15 free games from this, and during the round, the free games can be retriggered, contributing to your count. Three or more phoenix Substitutes landing anywhere also start the round, with 10 free games instead of 15. That’s not all, though, because throughout the whole free games round, all payouts are trebled. The only retrigger of my session came in the round from spin 198, and that round paid 13.00, or 5.2 times the stake.
Five rounds in 410 spins
It’s accurate that there may not be an enormous heap of extra mechanics in Mystic Fortune. But this is of little importance when it comes to the amusement element of the game. In my 410 spins the Free Games round arrived five times, on spins 10, 17, 60, 198 and 267. It also supplies you with a free games round that includes trebled payouts as well. The round on spin 267 paid 155.00, or 62 times the stake, and was the biggest win of the session.
Minty’s Closing Thought: The five free games rounds paid 315.50 between them, 29% of everything the session won, and the one retrigger came in the round that paid least.
The free games round of the slot is one that carries added appeal because of the inclusion of trebled payouts, plus you’re able to gain additional free games thanks to retriggers.
