Robin's forest at a 4.00 stake

Without context, the theme of Riches of Robin might not halt you in your tracks — it's a Play'n GO slot at heart with the recognizable arrangement presented against a Sherwood Forest backdrop. I played it for 280 spins at a 4.00 stake. A soundtrack responds to the action produced by the spinning of the reels. Those spins wagered 1,120.00 credits and returned 609.20, taking the balance from 25,000.00 down to 24,489.20. Unquestionably, Riches of Robin does bear a likeness to the likes of The Green Knight and The Sword and the Grail Excalibur. Neither the Heist Re-Spins nor the Quick Hit award came out over the whole of that run. But what I get to play here is a fresh twist to the re-spin mechanics, and what is accurate is that Play'n GO does not waste time reinventing the wheel here.

Twenty fixed lines and the highest win on each

Riches of Robin is a 5-reeler with 20 fixed paylines that pay from left to right, just like most other slots of the Play'n GO lineup. Only the highest win on each of those lines is paid. Now, wait a minute, is what veteran players might be thinking. That's a modest count of ways to win. Seventy of my 280 spins paid something, a quarter of them, and 32 of those seventy came back with less than the 4.00 stake. I've come to recognize contemporary slots as the thousands-of-ways monsters that they are. My longest stretch without a win was 12 spins, ending on spin 204. But what Riches of Robin lacks in paylines, it makes up for in re-triggers as you will see.

Money Bags, and the four the round needs

In terms of features, there's some fresh and old to be discovered, and the Money Bags, which power the Heist Re-Spins, have been incorporated here as well. One spin I captured paid 8.00 on the 4.00 stake, twice what went in, with two Money Bags sitting on the bottom row marked 8 and 4 — two short of the four the round needs. A further inclusion is the Quick Hit feature. It can award a Money Bag on the reels on any non-winning spin. It did not fire once in 280 spins. Central to the game is the free spin feature with its multiplier and its re-triggers.

Maid Marian at the top of the paytable

On the reels you will discover a cast of Sherwood characters. Below the outlaws sit the four card suits, the smallest pays on the table. Out of which Maid Marian is the top paying symbol, granting you 20 times the stake for 5 across a payline, and Robin himself is the Wild, substituting for everything except the archery target Scatter and paying 20 times the bet for five of his own. As noted before, you can expect to witness the Quick Hit feature come into play, and when they land, these Prize Money Bags pay from 20 up to 1000 times the bet. Nothing near that Money Bag ceiling showed up for me; my best single spin of the session was 108.40, 27.1 times the stake.

Two scatters into the free spins

To trigger the bonus, players have to land 2 scatter symbols anywhere on the reels. Mine triggered on spin 172 and again on spin 175, three spins later, and the second of the two paid 40.00, ten times the stake. Free spins are granted up to a total of 20, with a multiplier of up to x5 riding along.

During the bonus, extra scatter symbols will grant +2 additional free spins and +x1 on the multiplier. Getting the multiplier that high takes a long chain of extra Scatters inside a single round. Once the multiplier hits x10, each re-trigger grants +4 free spins instead.

The fixed paylines by themselves permit the opportunity to land big wins. My best base-game returns were 34.40 on spin 79 and 25.60 on spin 227, 8.6 and 6.4 times the stake. Players depend heavily on the free spin multiplier for the biggest payouts, though, and the multiplier rises with each re-trigger. Between them the two rounds paid 148.00, 24% of everything I won. Neither of my two bonuses re-triggered, and the better of them returned 27 times the stake.

Our Minty Verdict: Two scatters is a cheap ticket into the bonus and mine sold twice in four spins, but the multiplier only moves when a round re-triggers, and neither of mine did — 148.00 credits from the pair, against the 1,120.00 the 280 spins cost. The Money Bag routes are where the 1000x and the 225x live, and both of those stayed shut all session.

The Heist Re-Spins I never reached

Whatismore, four or more Money Bags will give you 3 Heist Re-spins. I never saw four land at once, so that round stayed out of reach for the whole session. Every additional Money Bag resets the meter back to 3, and should the round conclude, all the Money Bags on the reels are won, paying between 2 and 225 times the bet. Across 280 spins the balance never climbed back to the 25,000.00 credits it opened on, and I finished on 54.4% of what I wagered.
